Terms of Service
Last updated: October 2026
The following terms apply to linestool.com (the "Site"). Acceptance is implied by use, so if they are not acceptable to you, please stop using the Site.
The tool this page covers is LinesTool, a code line counter. Put simply, it counts total, code, comment and blank lines across more than forty languages, per file and per language, with CSV export, and the way it does so is this: it detects the language from the file extension and then classifies each line as code, comment or blank using that language's comment syntax, which is why a Python docstring and a C block comment are counted correctly. Everything stated here applies to that tool and the values it handles, and to nothing else.
In day-to-day use the tool works only from the files or folders you drop in, and it is usually opened for things like estimating the size of a codebase. None of that reaches us, so none of it can be stored.
What the Site is
The Site provides a code line counter and explanatory material, free of charge, for general information and education. Results are estimates derived from the inputs you supply using the method described on the page. A developer tool emits a draft, and reviewing and testing it before use in your own work remains your responsibility.
No professional relationship
Browsing or using linestool.com does not create a professional relationship, an advisory duty or any obligation on our part towards you.
Who owns what here
Ownership of the Site's copy, layout and code lies with us or our licensors. Link freely; ask in writing before reproducing substantial parts.
How the Site is funded
The Site is supported by advertising and may link to external resources. We do not control third-party content and are not responsible for it. Advertising never influences a result.
Changes and downtime
There is no uptime promise: tools and pages may be altered, suspended or withdrawn without notice, and the Site is offered as it stands.
What we are not liable for
As far as the law permits, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential loss and for any decision taken in reliance on a result from the Site.
Applicable law
These terms are governed by the laws applicable to the operator of the Site, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Using generated output
What a developer tool emits is a draft. Nothing generated here should reach production without being reviewed and tested against your own requirements first.
Accuracy of results
We take the method seriously and describe it openly, but we cannot promise every output is flawless or that the material stays current. Where a known margin of error applies, treat the figure as an estimate rather than a fact.
Permitted and prohibited use
Personal and professional use is fine. What is not: disrupting the Site, scraping it hard enough to slow it for others, passing it off as your own, or using it unlawfully.
