We read everything that arrives here. LinesTool is a small project, so a message that says which tool you were using and what you expected gets a useful answer fastest.

LinesTool is a code line counter, so the messages that reach us tend to be about estimating the size of a codebase or about a figure that did not look right. Both are worth sending.

What to include

  • A link to the page, or the name of the calculator you used.
  • Your inputs, which for this tool means the files or folders you drop in; exactness is not needed.
  • The output you received against the output you expected.
  • Device and browser, for anything that looked wrong on screen.

Anything concerning comparing code against comment density is easier to answer when you include the page address, so we can look at the same tool you did.

When a number looks off

If a number looks off, we want to know. The calculation behind LinesTool is documented — it detects the language from the file extension and then classifies each line as code, comment or blank using that language's comment syntax, which is why a Python docstring and a C block comment are counted correctly — which means most errors trace to an input that does not match the model, or a rounding edge. Tell us what you expected and where, and we will check it.

How we handle what you send

Your message serves only the one purpose of a reply. It goes on no list and to no third party. Full details live in the privacy policy.
