Privacy Policy

LinesTool ("we", "us") runs linestool.com. Set out below is what we do with information and what you can choose. In one line: the files or folders you drop in is handled inside the browser and never leaves your device.

Scope of this policy

The tool this page covers is LinesTool, a code line counter. Put simply, it counts total, code, comment and blank lines across more than forty languages, per file and per language, with CSV export, and the way it does so is this: it detects the language from the file extension and then classifies each line as code, comment or blank using that language's comment syntax, which is why a Python docstring and a C block comment are counted correctly. Everything stated here applies to that tool and the values it handles, and to nothing else.

In day-to-day use the tool works only from the files or folders you drop in, and it is usually opened for things like estimating the size of a codebase. None of that reaches us, so none of it can be stored.

What you enter

On linestool.com the computation never leaves the browser. LinesTool reads your input in the page itself, produces the result there, and sends nothing over the network — which is also why the tool goes on working if you disconnect after loading it.

Code, config and payloads

Pasting production data into a tool is a risk only when the tool transmits it. This one does not: parsing and formatting happen on your machine, and the network plays no part in the result.

Security and data retention

LinesTool keeps nothing that identifies you and nothing you calculated. The only security surface that matters is the site's own delivery, which is encrypted throughout and patched when it needs to be.

Children and the site

LinesTool provides general-purpose tools and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

The rights you have

You may have statutory rights over personal data — to access, amend, erase or object to its processing, depending on your jurisdiction. You can exercise them by writing to us; in most cases there will be no stored data to act on.

Updates to this page

LinesTool revises this page whenever the way it handles data changes; the "last updated" line at the top always shows the current version.

Technical data gathered automatically

Delivering a page necessarily produces some technical detail at the edge: an IP address, a browser string, the path requested and when. LinesTool uses that only to serve and protect the site. It is not stitched together with whatever you enter into the tool.

How cookies and adverts work here

Two things can set cookies on linestool.com: our own consent flag, which remembers your answer to the banner, and the third-party advertising network, which may use them for interest-based ads. Refuse them all and the tool still behaves exactly as before.

Analytics and aggregate statistics

Where analytics are enabled they record aggregate usage only — page views and approximate region. We do not build individual profiles, and analytics providers are never given access to what you enter into the tool.
