Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how LinesTool ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use the website linestool.com (the "Service"). The short version: your files never leave your browser.

1. Files You Count Are Never Uploaded

LinesTool runs entirely in your browser. When you drag files or folders onto the counter, they are read locally by JavaScript, parsed in memory and rendered on your screen. No file content, file name, path, line count or language statistic is transmitted to our servers or any third party. Closing the tab discards everything.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

The Service has no accounts, no sign-up walls and no user profiles. We do not ask for your name, email address or any identifying information to use the counter. There is no user-generated content stored on our servers.

3. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We may use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Anonymous traffic statistics — to understand aggregate usage patterns (pages visited, approximate region, browser type) so we can improve the Service.
  • Advertising — third-party advertising partners may serve ads and use cookies to deliver and measure them. These partners have their own privacy policies governing their use of data.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies does not disable the line counter itself.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service is static and hosted on a content delivery network; the network processes standard request logs (IP address, timestamps, user agent) for security and delivery purposes. Analytics and advertising providers, if any, operate under their own privacy policies. None of them ever receive your counted files, because those files are never sent anywhere.

5. Data Security

Because file processing is 100% client-side, the most sensitive material you might count — proprietary source code, unreleased projects, files covered by NDAs — never crosses the network at all. The Service is also served over HTTPS.

6. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
